Course Objectives:
Students will create one pair of leather sandals from start-to-finish. This entry-level shoemaking activity provides all materials and an interactive class environment, from the comfort of home.
Course Description:
This sandal making workshop will cover the footwear design processes and walk through making sandals together. Bring your sandal design ideas to life with this step-by-step process and real-time guidance from an industry expert.
Instruction Materials:
All materials will be provided and will include:
- Sole Leather
- Insole Leather
- Upper Leather
- Manila Pattern Making Paper
- Thread
- Rubber Heel Tap
- Cement
- Thick Awl
- Leather Needles
- Xacto Knife
- Sandpaper
Additionally, Students will need:
- Hammer
- Scissors
Course Outline:
Day 1
- Welcome students, introduction and presentation of my work experience
- Discuss agenda – what the two-day course will cover
- Introduce the design process
- Learn about various popular footwear construction techniques
- Create shoe patterns, learning about fit and comfort
- Mock-up sandal to prepare for the real thing!
Day 2
- Learn about the history of leather sandals
- Prepare leather insoles/midsoles and soles
- Strap placement/lasting the straps onto your insoles
- Adding your soles and assembling components
- Attaching “flat” heel
- Finishing touches
